top end
Hello fellow campers. I am taking family to the very top of Aus. next May and we are after some advice as to the best spot to camp. We are looking at getting a powered site at either Seisa camp. ground or Punsand Bay. If anyone has been there some advice would be great.
Richard.

I would stay at loyalty beach, just out of Seisa.
Seisa camp can be very noisy, and is not as good as loyalty beach camp ground.
punsand bay camp is good, also.
On the way up ;
Kalpowar is a good camp ground
Archer river, camping on the river is realy nice.
On the telegraph track;
Dulhunty river is a good overnight stop
Eliot falls/twin falls is well worth a stay, with very nice swimming, suggest a couple of nights.
Hope this helps a little, have fun.

thanks. we will be staying at nearly all of these. Will be doing bloomfield track, battle camp rd, OTL, frenchman's track and anywhere else i can get to in the time i have. I actually have 7 weeks to get from cairns via all these tracks, to the tip and back to proserpine, that's where the wife gets a plane home and my kids and i have another 2 weeks from there. Fraser island here we come!

Hello mate, got back from the cape last week. Sensational time. Had 4 weeks just in the cape. We did the Bloomfield track from cape trib. to lions den hotel. Also did old tele track, but we came off just past sam crk, didn't do last 12 km's although we were told that it wasn't too bad. Stayed at punsand bay near tip, we think best spot to camp. If you don't need power you can get a beach front site, sit in your chair and have a beer looking at the tip to your right and horn island to your left. Brilliant. Also did Kalpowar to cape melville, when we went it was very tough, lots of mud and water in the crossings, anyone who towed got bogged in evry one. From cape melville to cooktown did the starcke track, long hard drive, lots of deep washouts, grass taller than the car. Track very hard to follow at times. Let me know if you need any more info. Sensational holiday. I have an 05 prado, my friends were laughing at what i put it through, but it made it. I hate independent front suspension though, the prado didn't quite get the flex like the cruisers and patrol!
Seeya, drive safe!!!!!

Hi Rich,thanks for that,sounds like you all had a great trip,always good to hear.The top end sounds like where the real adventure is,not sure when we will be abel to make it up there though,but I non the less get exited reading great tales of travel n adventure in the 4by in Oz.
Yeh! I know what you meen about the front end on the Prado's,But with a bit of determination they will come through for yu.I'v been taging along with a few patrol's out there and i have to work a bit harder,but so far no recovery Ha!
Like to see some pics if you'v got em.
Cheers Teza.
