Newnes is a great place, have been heading there for years. You shouldn't have any trouble with the river crossing, though the sand can become a little boggy.
Are you coming in through lidsdale? You can also take the blackfellows hand trail through from the zig zag railway end. It's a easy grade trail, but a bit of fun all the same, and always better than the blacktop!
Have fun, do the walks, you'll enjoy it.

If you like exploring relics over grown in the bush and I dont just mean whats on the posted map. Theres stuff everywhere youll love it. Lots of adventure there and wild animals but does gets cold this time of year. River should be fine but as DazzGUIV said is very soft and boggy, dont stop and you will make it without problems

Welcome to the site. Let us know how the newnes trip goes.
Also there is the mini middle earth meet up in September, would be a good way to meet a few of the members. Just check out the NSW trip posts for the info.

There's nothing better than laying in the river at Newnes on a warm day on a banana chair with a coldie! The water is basically 200mm deep over a sandy bottom everywhere. No good for a proper swim but perfect to cool of and lay about. Safe for the kids to run a muck as well. Don't fall in a wombat hole!

I cant agree with you more Peter. we dig holes in the river and find we spend the hole day in it on a 35degree or more days the river warms up and once your in it you dont want to get out till the sun goes down. Also the river heals itself real quick, dont matter how big a hole you dig its gone the next day.
