Default Portable battery

Hey guys, have found one of the best bits of camping gear that I have bought lately is one of those Projecta 1500 jump starters.

1. It has a deep cycle battery in it ( more for running dead flat and re charging unlike cranking battery in most other jump starters).
2. Portable it weighs around 15 kilos.
3. Equiped with a small compressor
4. Has a light
5. Most importantle has your 12 volt outlet.( can run a fridge for a short period ).
6. And most obvious to jump start a flat battery ( especially a big diesel)

We use it for lights, kids use it for their DVD player at night, and i suppose a heap of other things.

I think I should of got a discount off these guys the way I am rapping it ?

Anyway have not had it longer enough to work out exactle how long everything lasts on it but when i do I will let u all know. I still have and use my deep cycle in the car as well but if your in the middle of know where its handy as a backup.

ive got 6 (NEW) UPS 12v batteries hooked up in a box that the kids use for running the DVD players and camp lighting... they are 7Ah each... so 42Ah of 12v power...

Cost : $0 - have a contact in the computer repair industry!

Can't argue with that price. The main thing is that it does the job you got it for.
I used mine over 3 days last weekend at Barrington Tops ( still bloody cold) and ran lights charged a couple of phones and one of those electric cars. It worked well.

Default Homemade Portable Battery

I made my own.
Its 85Ah (700CCA) fully sealed deep cycle Calcium / Calcium battery fitted into a plastic case with an Anderson plug to charge from 6mm cables located under back seat. Runs 52L Fridge / Freezer set to -4C for at-least 4½ days (Min.) when isolated (away from vehicle). Has 2 marine quality rubber capped lighter plugs fitted to lid & it can be switched to assist primary battery start motor if need be. Use it for all lighting, shower, and Freezer requirements as well as running an inverter for laptop. With a short run in the vehicle every few days its good for at-least 4 more. Food stays frozen permanently, camp site is always very well lit and those long hot showers at the end of a dusty hot day keep the women happy.

Battery $90
Box $12
Plugs $10 each
6mm wire, fuse, lugs (approx. $20)

Note: Vehicle wiring (Min. 6mm for up to 5M), Isolator(use Redarc), Anderson Plugs, connectors, etc. will cost about the same again.

Yeah I have been using the same thing but from supercheap auto for years now and can't speak highly enough of them. I think its the light blue one thats about 30amp and has a compressor in the back a light on the front and a 12 volt socket. The uses are endless from just a reading light to running your fridge over night i also use it to run my 12volt shower i just leave it outside the pop up ensuite plug the shower in and away you go. Prob one of my fav camping accessories.

looking at one last week $500 the sales rep said they are great (but they would) said she runs their engle fridge for 5days no problem .so i could be interested instead of duel batteries, any comments welcome

get the snorkel fitted next sat so the jump starter will have to wait.

5 DAYS!! Thats alot of battery!! I'm looking at getting one of these as well as running duel batteries. I'm thinking of it more along the lines of showers, (only for the chicks cos they're soft!) and the fridge if it stays at camp with no camper trailer. Generally usefull, however, don't know how reliable. I'll wait for all your horror stories first.

G.Day Lordy, if you check out E.Bay I got mine for $320 delivered to door with warranty.

Not sure about 5 days running the fridge as I have not tried that yet But even a couple of days is very handy. Again it's a good bit of gear and easily moved around the campsite for whatever you need to run.
