Default GPS Readings

I am just a beginner with maps, I recently went out and plotted a course anound the block and put it on mapsource,went ok.when i look at most readings on tracks of 4x4 EARTH they have a - reading and i dont get that.Can somebody explain this to a beginner

im guessing you mean the latitude reading??

if so its because the reading is degree's NORTH... we are in the southern hemisphere so all latitudes are -N.....

does that clear it up for ya?

Check your GPS set up for "hddd degree mm.mmm" and map datum "WGS 84" That should give correct settings for Australia.
