Default Silly question

Hey guys. I have been reading the forum to try and understand what's involved with setting up a GPS and from what I have read you need a GPS and some sort of computer to be able to look at maps. I didn't understand half of the jargin that are in the posts.
I am looking at buying a hand held unit that I can use for off road use to follow maps from the web site. But would also like to use it when I go mountain bike riding so I don't get lost etc. I'm looking at spending around $400.00 for a GPS and was wondering what the best brand was and if this is a reasonable budget.
Also is there a GPS for dummies site that explains all the things you need to know to set them up?

Agree with Grumpy's answer and look at Johnny Appleseed website. The store is near the PA Hospital
