Default Garmin Nuvi 760 & OziExplorer

Hey all, i,ve downloaded the trial and the shareware version of OzExplorer and had a bit of a play with it and although I probably won't ever use it to full capacity it looks like it could be of use to me.

I also am a big fan of the rooftop map series and have an opportunity to get all of the maps of the High Country on a CD in jpeg AND map format. I understand that I can use these then in OziExplorer.

My GPS head unit is a Garmin Nuvi 760. I already have it pre-loaded with shonkymaps but it is running from the unit memory itself and not the SD card.

Is there any way that I can use my Garmin unit running on OziExplorer and maps from an SD card or can i just use OziExplorer on the PC to plot my waypoints which I then upload the coordinates through Trip & Waypoint manager to the garmin unit and use them on Shonkymaps??

We are heading back to the alps on boxing day and it would be nice to not have to keep putting my glasses on to read the dam paper maps

I just spent the last hour playing with OziExplorer. I think I might just be able to at least get my waypoints on the GPS. That is the main thing.

I also have a Garmin Nuvi 760 - in my experience it won't run OziExplorer (happy to be proved wrong) as the Garmin OS doesn't work with Ozi, which needs Windows CE or similar.

I have Ozi loaded on my no-name touch screen off ebay that replaced the CD player in the dash - that works a treat.

Cheers,

Dave

TomTom and Garmin doesn't use WinCE 5.0 or > so OziExplorerCE will not work. Garmin has the ability to change to other maps but you have to deselect the City Navigator maps to access them. A program I am using for planning a trip south is TYRE Tyre which you can route to the many roads and tracks. This is able to load routes into Garmin and TomTom GPS units.

Mark you would need to get Hema or maps that use the IMG extension. Call Johnny Appleseed or a good map store.

I think i'll get myself a small cheap laptop, add a GPS receiver dongle and run OziExplorer on there. For the moment tho I can upload my waypoints from Ozi to the garmin which is the main thing and i'll continue to run shonkymaps on the Xmas trip. I'll be taking my laptop with me anyway so I can keep all my tracks stored.

does anyone have a local map of types that they could send me from around my area (Redbank Plains) so I can have a play with Ozi and my GPS. I just want to see if I can still upload tracks to the laptop from my Garmin. According to the help file I believe I can but I would like to have a play now so i know what i'm doing in the Alps.

I've just found out that i can't even use any purchased maps on the freware version of OziExplorer and I can'tupload anything to my GPS on the trial version. I gotta purchase the full version before I can do anything S**T.
