Question looking for a new gps

gday all

i have had a explorist xl with discover aus on it but have broken the screen and apparently it has issues to , but anyway i am trying to work out what gps would best suit my needs , i already have an on road gps so i am looking for something for the bush only i wish to be able to record all trips & points of interest and transfer to computer or back onto the gps as required , i have been looking at the nuvi range due to the larger screen and the amount of maps that can be used with it but there are so many different models i am starting to get confused , i am not interested in feature such as mp3 or bluetooth etc , just the ability to save tracks and enter poi and routes created on the computer
any help would be appreciated .

cheers darren

I have the GPS60 with an external antenna on the snorkel which works well. I also have a TomTom that runs TTMaps that track offroad well too. Getting a Garmin 255 for the wife for her car soon

Get yourself any of the S Series Navmans and then you can crack it and load ozi explorer onto it and have one that does both Raod and bush Navigating. I just bought one for $70 and then loaded ozi to it.

Oregon 300 is a good choice. Touch screen, storage capacity and access to some good free (and commercial) maps. I have one and use it all the time for mapping and navigation both foot and 4by (tho' the screen is a bit small for driving unless you are stopped). Let us know if you have questions - there is a heap of help about.

Hi Grumpy,
that sounds like it would be perfect for me. are they easy to "crack"?? do you need anything special to get it all working?
cheers

thanks for that robz, but after doing some more research i think that ill have a go at fitting a double din unit into the triton that has a built in gps. some of the consumer review sites i read on the navman gps's were not very kind to them at all. put me off buying one all together :S
