Default KNav 6" GPS or Garmin Nuvi 1390

I have been looking to replace my TomTom GPS with something that works better and cost less to update the maps.

The two in question is the KNAV 6" sold on eBay (< $200) and the Garmin Nuvi 1390 (< $300).

I am after a reliable unit that does on and off road navigation.

So far the KNAV is a Windows CE power unit that can run OziExplorer CE (would need to purchase license) where the Nuvi 1390 can run the Garmin Topo maps (needs to be purchased) or Shonkymaps.

This discussion is to find out from people that have OziExplorer CE hopefully on KNAV GPS there experience and problems and the same for the users of the Garmin 1390 (Nuvi 1200, 1300 and 1400 series included)

Hi bmurry2250 - I've been looking at the 5" KNav on eBay myself. While I am new to the world of GPS and can't answer your question I would like to know if the KNav units can run Shonkymaps ? From the sounds of your post, maybe it can't ?
Got to do most things on a tight budget, and Shonky comes at the right price
Looking at a Windows CE platform GPS so I can hopefully run some OBD2 scanner software since my Triton doesn't have a trip computer.
Also new to forums so sorry if this is considered hijacking the thread.

I have now played with the 6" KNav now for a few days and it needs more memory like the 7" has (2GB). It can run OziExplorerCE but Shonkymaps runs on Garmin only. I like the KNAV but recommend the unit with more memory which will help issues I have with slow or poor response. Chatting with other guys, the 7" KNAV work well.

I built some screens on the OziCE to easierly select functions which you can't do on a Garmin unit

The person on eBay has been very helpful and I will be upgrading to the 7" unit which should fix the issue

Just picked up the 7" KNAV with the 533MHz ARM processor and 128MB, much better. Starting to load OziExplorer onto the memory card. The seller from eBay recommends the 7" for it's memory over the 6" version
