Thumbs up Mobile Atlas Creator= free maps

Want free maps? Mobile Atlas Creator uses resources from Google, Bing, Microsoft and a heap of other online mapping providers to create map tiles you can use with Oze, Garmin, Mangellian, Android OS phones and bucket loads more.
Create street maps, Terrain, Satelite etc - all work perfectly and are converted to small files.
You can choose your level of zoom and output format, even add GPX files and way points as you create them.
The Zoom grid feature makes it easy to work out what zoom you need and how many tiles you will end up with for your chosen map area.

LOL it sounds like I am selling this software i'm not! it's just because I am so impressed with the ease of use and functionality.
Best of all its FREE! once installed just click on the world map in the RH corner to remove the watermark it's that easy.
I have tested it with OZ explorer and use with some Android Apps and the maps work perfectly - no need to calibrate as all the GPS info is downloaded with the maps and inserted into the tiles, the file system created integrates perfectly so you just copy and paste into the directory of your device - TOO EASY

Get it here (ver 1.8)-->Mobile Atlas Creator Download - Softpedia

1.9 Beta 5: Mobile Atlas Creator Download - Softpedia
This software seriously rocks!!

Let me know what you guys think ?

Looks good, I will need to have a look at after this training course is complete. Better to wait for Big Rigs's review

I've had a week or so playing about with the program. The concept is great however it think its more designed for creating maps of very small areas.

I attempted to create an atlas compiling 4 maps in total of the immediate Newcastle/Stockton area. There was several hours of rendering after download and then the program would time out. I need to try a few more things but i'm skeptical at this stage. It works really well if you need a map of an immediate area like a page from the UBD or something like that but nothing bigger.

Hmm, I have not had any issues and it works really fast It takes a bit of fiddling to work out the best settings for the map you are creating.
There are a couple of how 2's on youtube if that helps, the long rendering may be the map provider you chose - google maps runs faster in atlas than it does in my internet browser.

This is a single tile which is about 1:64th of the area of Wallaroo SF we will be driving at MME - At this zoom level the area is 64 tiles, this can be layered over the top of a single tile created for the whole area.
Each variation took about 20 seconds to create from start to finish, this tile is single layerd at zoom 16 though you can make multi layer tiles when creating to get more zoom levels.
Tile was created with Google map and hybrid.
There is a PDF in the Atlas folder which is a good guide to start and a few tips to help on youtube.
In Settings/map size 1024 work best with tiles like this or they take too long to download and render.

Google gets a bit funny if you download too many tiles (Cuts you off). I have downloaded Sat. tiles that install in MS Flight Sim X to give you real scenery.

Thats exactly the issue i had Bill. Admittedly I am trying to get maximum detail and zoom too. If it can't do that I may as well continue using all the existing Hema maps that I have. Thanks for the tips Gordon. I'll check out the how to's on you tube. That might just be the ticket..
