Ive seen on ebay you can get xp or windows7 on a device that looks like an I pad for $400-600 1.7ghz with 2-4g ram 10"screen
Been thinking about it myself.

You just need to search the App store, but the inbuilt GPS on the ipad isn't comparable to a proper navigation/tracking GPS unit though. And its only the 3G models that have Assisted-GPS anyway, wi-fi miss out.

Agreed the A-GPS isnt top notch but iPhone (and maybe iPad too) will accept external GPS input via the 30 pin plug. A remote 'proper' SIRF 3/4 GPS device that plugs in cant be far away if it isnt already available. Magellan already make a case for the iphone that is waterproof, has a booster batt and a GPS chip - tad expensive but seems to me to be a very logical concept

I have heard rumours that OziEx for the phone/pad OS is being worked on, which would then make the ipad more of a 'no brainer' choice for us lot! Lets face it, with the way these devices are spreading a software developer would be foolish not to at least consider making his stuff work on the Apple mobile OS

I do know there was a danish guy who cracked the Iphone to run windows mobile. If this is the case the Ipad can be cracked to run windows CE.

Yeah seen that. Runs in a Virtual Machine on the phone. There is the Bit MAp app which can use OZIEx maps too - I have it but havent had time to try any maps in it
