Toyota Landcruiser 80 Series GXL 1995
Toyota Landcruiser 80 Series GXL, 1995
Good Points
Toyota reliability!!
6 cylinder 4.2 Litre diesel
Large seating capacity
Coil Sprung and solid axle
Fuel capacity and economy
Large towing capacity
Comfortable
Offroad capabilities
Electric everything
Kept very well (Toyota serviced and logbooks up to 200,000), only two owners
Bad Points
Nothing yet!!
Its not the turbo engine, but i was only after a diesel!
What mods have you done?
I have done nothing yet! Just bought it!
But it has:
Electric Brakes
Toyota bullbar and towbar
Almost everything standard genuine toyota including CD player
Dual batteries
Side steps
Roof racks
Since buying it:
3 inch King Spring coils
5 Inch 45mm EFS shocks
Coil retainers
Removed rear swaybar
Swapped my BFG AT's with some 285/75/R16 Federal Couragia MT's
Aftermarket Alpine Headunit
What mods are on the list to do?
3" lift
Sliders and rear bar work
34" BFG KM2's
Winch
Manual locking hub conversion
Sound system
UHF
Rear drawers
Few other things that i want but will never be able to afford!
Why did you buy this vehicle?
Basically its offroad capacity, reliability and comfort. Before this i owned a 2000 DC Hilux with IFS front and leaf rear, which was limited offroad even when locked up and quite small and uncomfortable. This Landcruiser is coil sprung and live axle resulting in excellent articulation (or it will after i upgrade the suspension) is quite large but with reasonable fuel economy, is comfortable, can tow larger weights and is a diesel which will go forever hopefully!!
How often do you go offroad?
Once a month
What will your next vehicle be?
Newer Landcruiser, probably Turbo diesel 100 series or Smarty pants 200 series!

Not sure Hollykate...its got 145 litre capacity so i want to fill both tanks up completely then run them to empty to find out the fuel consumption. I have heard i should get about 16l/100km on a reasonably stock 80 without larger tyres lift etc so we will see how it goes.
Hows the chev handling with the new lift Frosty??
I think ill be throwing some lift in reasonably soon and and will be doing the same as you i.e. buying from Zordo and putting it in myself so i get to learn the ins and outs of the suspension gear. Might need some assistance if you're willing!!
