Default Toyota Hilux dual cab 1986

Toyota Hilux dual cab, 1986

Good Points
Leaf spring/solid axle is easy to lift, flex and get good clearance.
Diesel is cheaper than petrol and burns slower.
Diesel has great torque down low where its needed.
No power steering and I have arms of steel. hahaha
Its a dual cab so I can take some kids with me when I go wheeling.
No computerized stuff so its easy to work on at home.
Its a hilux and its tuff!!

Bad Points
Leaf springs are as hard as a rock when it comes to holes, bumps and speedhumps.
Diesel engine so bugger all power.
No power steering.
Its a dual cab so I can take some kids with me when I go wheeling.
Rust is a problem for early luxes.

What mods have you done?
Cut down tray and exhaust, Superior Engineering adjustable torque rod, 2inch body lift, CD player, 6inch speakers, seatcovers, DIY flares, DIY diif breathers, DIY centre console, 35inch Claws on 15x8 sunnys, also have 33inch TSL Super Swampers on 15x8 King sunnys, custom 3inch stainless steel snorkel, Tough Dog RTC steering damper, UHF, just finished a cab swap, fitted IFS rear springs, flipped Ubolts, 200mm extended rear shackles, inverted rear shocks, Bilstein 10inch shocks in rear.

What mods are on the list to do?
nissan bucket seats, some spotlights, steering wheel, RUF, extended front shackles, dropped front crossmember, track bar for the rear, shock hoops, Bilstein shocks, hi-steer and power steering, CT20 turbo kit, 3inch exhaust, Exedy clutch, custom tube front bar, sliders, custom steel tray/rollbar, exo cage, reduction gears or twin transfers,

Why did you buy this vehicle?
I swapped it for my 90mod 4runner, it was IFS and I wanted a solid axle front for offroad use, clean swap and all it cost me was $120 to keep my personalised plates.

How often do you go offroad?
Whenever I can, probably every second weekend.

What will your next vehicle be?
Probably a cheap runaround so I can do a strip down rebuild of the lux.

Yes mate lots of them. Ill put some up right now......
This is how it looked before I starting modding it, although, the tray had already been cut down, Id added spottys to the roll bar and Id fitted 31s on GQ rims.

This is after the 2inch body lift was added.

Now with 35inch muddys, and the rollbar cut off the tray, front bumper moved to suit the BL and cut to suit the bigger tyres, white rims are 15x8 sunnys with BFG muds, black rims are the same but with MTR Wranglers. (I have 2 more BFG muds and 2 more white sunnys in the shed to go on)

And some wheeling pics........
I took Mrs Dudelux and the 2 little ones out to Ourimbah State Forest last October, Mrs D took some pics.

A flex pic, not too bad considering they are standard Toyota leaf springs and shocks that are 24years old. They are still in good condition for their age.

In the Brisbane Waters National Park just off Woy Woy Rd. I know there is a turn off to the scouts centre in there but I noticed a few others while passing through. Google maps has them viewable, not sure there are fire breaks or walking tracks but the one I saw could take a small truck

Im getting the lux ready fo its first comp, it will be entering Son Of Trials at the end of Feb.
I have a mate that will be lending me his 33inch muddys for the weekend, and the Mrs is coming to take pics.
We have scored a babysitter for our kids for the weekend, so this will be the first time the Mrs and myself have gone away with no children at all in almost 3 years, woohoo!!!
So at the moment Im trying to get it going good, Ive just replaced the front brake pads, Ill be doing oil and filters soon, also trying to get my UHF wired up before the event. And just some minor bits and pieces that need to be done/tidied up to be ready.
Ive been wheeling a fair bit lately as the kids have been on hols, so Ive been taking them out with me. We went to look around the old prison at Wyee Point last weekend, then did some tracks in that area, made our way to Morisset and then went searching for the big quarry/4wd training ground at Freemans Waterhole, which we eventually found after a while driving heaps of tracks. I didnt do any of the climbs or mudholes in the quarry as no-one else was around and I had the kids with me.
But we all had a good day.

I took Mrs D wheeling yesterday(wed) while we had no children, older 3 at school and younger 2 at preschool.
She got some pics, I had a good play on the tracks, we had some lunch, enjoyed the peace and quiet and got home in time to get the kids.
Heres some of the pics she got......

Hope you enjoy the pics
