Toyota Landcruiser 40 Series 1976
Toyota Landcruiser 40 Series, 1976
Good Points
A classic go anywhere old school 4x4.
No frills, just good skills and a 100% reliable cruiser you can work on in your own garage with some spanners, no electronics.
Bad Points
Being a SWB, limited space. Then for the people that need the luxuries out bush, there is no air con, trip computers, pockets for gear, cup holders and all those things that you get the 4x4 to get away from in the first place.
What mods have you done?
308 stroker engine, natural aspirated.
60 series diff's with disc brakes all round.
Power steering.
Rear LSD.
Front Detroit Lokka.
50mm extended wheelbase.
25mm Body lift.
33" Muddies.
GPS with Hema Maps.
12000lb Synthetic rope winch.
Onboard Air Compressor (mounted in engine bay with Vee belt pumping out 200PSI, still need a tank though)
What mods are on the list to do?
Spring Over Axle conversion. (considering it)
Roof rack with tent.
Rear dual swingaway bar.
Why did you buy this vehicle?
The old family 2nd ute was at its end, wife and I looked at getting a buzz box but we had a daily driver Navara and were not keen on driving with bums on the ground. Showed my wife a 40 series and an old series Jeep and she gave me the nod for the cruiser, my preference also.
Looked for a part finished project car and bought this one from Qld and transported it to WA.
Good old WA transport gave a few difficulties getting a modified car registered, engineering taking the longest and after we had her for 9 months she was registered.
How often do you go offroad?
Family gets out once per fortnight for a day trip. (Me, wife and two kids, 10 + 8). Will get set up for camping for weekends away.
What will your next vehicle be?
This will be our main bush 4x4. Will be getting a VW Amarok for the daily driver at the end of the year.
THE PICS BELOW ARE FROM THE DAY WE BOUGHT HER, AS YOU CAN SEE SHE WAS A GOOD LOOKING PROJECT TO START WITH, JUST NEEDED THOSE THINGS TO MAKE HER STRONGER AND YOUR OWN
