Thumbs up

Can you buy a snorkle and fit it yourself or is it wise to have it installed by the proffesionals

Cheers

You can if you don't mind drilling a hole in your guard. They come with a template. For the hundred dollars or so get it fitted and save yourself the hassles in my opinion.

Pathfinder

Assuming you have a Pathfinder, which model is it? You could try on the PCOA forum - PCoA • Index page I know there are very detailed instructions for R50 but yours would be a little different. Do a search on there for snorkel.

I've had the bonnet under water dozens of times. Play it safe - cover your grille (it stops the water pushing your radiator into your fan if nothing else) and keep the engine in the trough behind the bow wave.

I usually spray the engine compartment with silicone spray after every engine clean (after trips with river crossings or decent mud).

Another good thing is the motor and engine compartment still look shiny & new years later.
Some people get edgy about drilling through outer & inner guards & if thats the case pay an expert to do it.

If doing it yourself, don't just trust the template, hold the snorkel inplace and compare fitment position. Some say the template position keeps the snorkel a little further than desired from the pillar. I guess they do this to create a safe margin for error.

Drown the lecy's in that stuff before the big plunge. Not to early though, the stuff burns off with heat. Before you dunk, go silly under the bonnet. You can also use Vasoline in all your fittings for a medium turm fix. I'm sure you've got HEAPS of that! Guy's, a good way to avoid the problam,NEVER GO OUT ALONE! ESPECIALLY ALONE THROUGH WATER!!

Thanks for that post mate.
