Default Question-was the Newby run too difficult in Warby on Australia day??

Please give me real feed back, as I may have lost the plot between easy and medium

When you drive tracks, there needs to be a bit of a challenge, the 4X4s are built for off road travel, that is what we did today, to give people an idea of what 4X4ing is about

The tracks were dry and safe, no slipping or sliding, just wheel positioning, a few ruts and spoon drains, common on all tracks

Hope you guys learned something today, your and your rig capabilities maybe???
The last track was a challenge and everyone did that easily, congratulations.

Come with me when it is wet, Hehehaha, would be a different story, winches, snatches etc, and definate serious mud tyres, you will not be able to straddle the ruts because you drop into them and then you are stuck, unless you have big tyres, lift and a winch etc, so that is 4WDing as I see it

Thank goodness we had good weather leading up to today as you all did extremely well and have driven some tough tracks, please do not attempt them in the wet unless you are in company of a capable rig like the setups you saw today, winches low and high mount, lockers ( you can't see them ) Tonkatrol and Tonkadore have front and rear and Plastered-Matt- TEC GU Patrol also has them, that is part of safety when doing runs, make sure you can retreive some one,
Sorry I am rambling, comments for and against greatly appreciated

Jack, personally I think that the run you organised was an easy to medium run.

At times it did have the potential to become a lot harder, but it was a matter of concentrating on what you were doing, and leaving enough room between the car in front of you and the car behind.

A small amount of rain would have turned the tracks chosen into a nightmare. Those tracks are not something that I would have attempted if it was wet.

I thoroughly enjoyed the day out yesterday and the GU loved every minute of it. Some of the cars were very surprising as I think were a lot of their owners

It is good to do a run that is a small way out of your comfort level, if you dont keep pushing yourself, then you never know, and with the collective knowledge of everyone there was never an issue throughout the day.

Yesterday also showed me the points on my car that required attention:
like having a bit more downtravel in my suspension, it never picked up a wheel that I could feel, but it would have felt a lot more stable on some of the downhill sections.

Also showed me points in my car that I never thought of until it showed itself:
Crawler gears, the downhill section even with the handbrake on, the car was still wanting to run away. GU Autos, great around town, sucks downhill

Hope this helps,

Reddave

Was a really good day Jack. I'll speak for myself here in that I was surprised how easy the ute did those tracks. I know how difficult things can get when it's wet. I can still remember what it was like last time. All in all it was a brilliant day out.

Easy to Medium (good mix) for us.
Jack, for our family these tracks were great, like redave said, would be an entirely different matter in the wet.
I found them challenging at times but completely doable. We had fun with out breaking the car. ( I think )
I was amased at what vehicles we had and how they all coped so well, so Im of the opinion that landrovers may not be all that bad after all..
In fact I changed my opinions on a lot of things 4x4 after this trip. I guess the advantage of seeing so many different rigs attempting the same scenario's.
There was a good mix of terrain complete with mud hole for those who wanted to get a bit dirty and of course snatch strap demonstrations.
Steep downhills ( not great for autos) with some large rocks to test your nerves.
Plenty of ruts and spoons. Some easy sections where we could talk and reflect on trickier bits we had just done.
We think a good mix for a fun day and good company, that's what we wanted out of our 4x4.
10 out of 10 for us.

Great to hear guys, but surely someone will think different, hope not but if you do please say so, you will never do those tracks in the wet, so you were all lucky to see our play area, and they were the easy ones of the play area.

Wazza made an interesting comment, Plastered and I did the last track in high 2wd, and I did a lot of stuff in 2wd, but used low range a bit, 5th, after I got told off by Jo for going too fast, that happens in 2wd high

Hi all,

Good day out.Any day out in the scrub is good in my opinion

Although i did not finish the day(Should have just plugged the tyre when eventually finding the small nail). My opinion, very easy with a couple of mediums thrown in.As everyone has mentioned a different story when it is wet.No matter what area you are driving.Things can change so quickly.

At the start of the Newbie meet up point, where we aired down.i was talking to Anthony?Arron?and partner in the red Four Runner, sorry if i got the name wrong.Airing down i use the Stahuns, everyone is different in regards to deflation tools.Did not know what they were.Dirk said the same thing. They look easy!In saying that their first run or runs out on the trks after recent vehicle purchase. We all have to start somewhere. So the day was a bit of an eye opener for them.

At one of the stops further down the track.I had a bit of a yak with Dirk and partner in the "DISCO 2"Both from Belgium. He said i thought this was susposed to be easy, with a smile on his face.i said it is!.I suggested that they look into doing a 4x4 training course.Just to let them know how to learn about their vehicles capabilites plus their own.Personally i think it is money well spent.I did mine years ago, beginers to intermediate.Mind you i will never be an expert.I do a few runs with a group of friends quite often.High country, mud, rocks, rivers, sand.Never an expert but always learning and having a good time

Cheers
