You are looking at Western Fall of the main range. Mt Townsend and Abbott Peak are in the photo. That is from the lookout just off the Alpine Way.

bmurray has got it.

The lookout is called Scammel's Ridge Lookout.
The grassy flats just visible in bottom right hand corner are Geehi Flats.
You can hike 1800 vertical meters from Geehi, up Hannel's Spur (visibile in the pic) to Mt. Kosci.
Mt. Kosci is over the back of these peaks.
