Default on board air storage

would like to see your on board set up, a mate has couple of lpg cylinders plumbed together for airing up ,it is rather bulky set up but has to be the right idea. So before I follow his lead would love to see your set ups ,I run 35 mickey t's on a 10 " rim and to get a good bag happening I need to run at least 16psi it makes for a good comfy run with plenty of grip. but still takes a good while with a 170l/m compressor to get back to hwy pressures.

So looking at a set up with under chassis tanks possibly, but love to see and hear of your efforts to achieve a decent amount of stored air

Have you thought about getting an endless air system fitted, you can make them yourself if you have the know how, as they are made from old air con compressors.

Endless air is the best which 4wd Action tested. Frosty has a air tank and electric compressor and that works a treat to put tyres back on the rim

.... and cover his face with mud

Frosty has a Bluetongue comressor and a 30 litre air tank out of a Hino truck. I'm keen to replicate his setup as I have the same compressor.

this is my setup. its an air tank out of an old Scania truck. not sure on the exact size but its about 20-30 liters. fits nicely under my tray between my dual batteries. it is supplied by an ARB air compressor from behind the drivers seat. took me the most part of a saturday to make.

I've heard lots about old A/C compressors being used (and can get hold of one) but am not sure how they are set up? Is this easy to do?

Yes, Frosty had regulators in his setup. Not that hard to setup with a 150 psi pressure switch and a non-return valve on the inlet side of the tank and basically normal air regulators on the outlet side. You should use briaded airline for the first 600 mm from the compressor as the line will get hot and fittings will blow off. You probably should adda 180 psi pop off valve for safety. But if you want lockers (100 psi), tyre inflation (unregulated 150 psi) and water tank pressurisation (20 psi), you will need two seperate regulators (lockers and water).

IMO you are better off adding a Shurflo pressure pump for the water tank. They are not expensive ($120) and are much quieter than a compresor in a camp site. I have the pressure pump for my 100 litre water tank and the compressor but have not added the air tank yet. You can hardly hear the pressure pump when at the rear of the vehicle where the tap is. It is a lot harder to get an air tank under a tub than a tray back so I am waiting to sort out the long range fuel tank first so I know exactly how much room I have.
