Air Compressors
Hi,
I'm in the market for a good air compressor.
What do you use? Can you list pros and cons? How much did you get it for?
At the moment, I'm looking at either:
ARB Portable Air compressor - $340-$350
TJM Air Compressor (Yellow) - $200
Bushranger Max Air II - $380
What do you reckon?

Hi benting88
I have an ARB compressor under bonnet. Does the job, only it gets bloody hot when inflating tyres! Burnt my hand when trying to disconnect hose from the outlet - it was practically red-hot, as was that end of the hose! Had to wait 10 mins and even then I used my shirt as it was still cooking! I'm sure it would be the same problem with portables too, so beware!
I think I might run a short line separate from the compressor so I don't have to touch it to connect and disconnect the hose.
It depends what/how you'll use it. Consider an air tank for greater capacity (especially if you have some big muddies), or possibly air lockers, will you have air tools you want to use etc...
Blue Tongue compressors seem alright too; although I haven't tried one, have heard some positive. There are also some twin pumps out there, but be careful with quality on these.
Best of luck!

I run a Bluetounge 4. Not very impressed. It runs a 20 or so ltr tank. It struggles to fill the tank once and keeps dropping out on the thermister. If you run an airtank, get a double head pump or something that is just HUGE!!

Thanks for the replies all,
I'm after a portable unit- so I guess the endless air and installing a separate air tank (whilst providing better performance) defeats the pupose of it being portable?
I understand however, if I did want to mount any of the mentioned units, I would be able to.
Are the bluetongue units the ones sold by Opposite Lock? How much would one cost?

Yep, about $350 I think, there abouts. Would probably make a good mobile unit. If ya want a mobile unit, get one of those units for a couple of hundred bucks, comes in a case, has a hose, bla bla bla. TJM, ARB, Supa cheap auto and the rest all flog em. They're probably all made in the same factory.

That's the reason as to why I'm swaying towards an ARB one- it looks different to the rest of them! All the rest look the same to me, besides a different paint colour.

Yeah, its pretty safe to go with the ARB one... Also, its assembled in their Melbourne factory, (don't know about the parts) so at least (most) of the money stays here in Aus.
