Question Winch Question

G'day All,

I have just got hold of a winch from my brother and he's stuffed the cable
Just wondering wether to go for rope or cable
its a 9000 pounder and only been used twice. Ive had a look on ebay at the prices of rope and its fairly steep and Im on a budget of not much.
is it really worth geting the rope over cable i know its stronger and lighter but for the price i'm thinking just sticking with cable.
any thoughts would be good thanks
the rope price i found was 8mm 13 bucks a meter or buy 30M for $405
compared to cable bout $100.
Cheers Cam

If money is tight, cable is the best option. Cable also tougher in dirt/rocky/mud conditions. Rope if it rubs on rocks will weaken.

Cam I would stick with the cable and ask around someone might be able to make you a new cable a little cheaper but I would have considered that price pretty reasonable.

Cable all the way Cam, synthetic rope needs cleaning after every use to make it last longer, also it does not like heat, so if the winch was not designed for synthetic cable you should only use steel. Also remember to run the winch all the way out and then back in again fortnightly, as this will ensure that it is in good working order for when you do need it, as it will keep all parts lubed.

Another question if anyone can answer is the winch I have got is an ironman 9000lb and I rang up
Burson who supplie them and they rang Ironman as Im chasing some parts they don;t make parts for them wich is bull@#$t they rekon they never sold spares.
