endless air set up
Hey all,
Ive been reading alot about endless air set ups and i did a search on here to see if anyone has done it and came up with a result of people whose mates are going to do it or they know someone who has done it so i thought i would give a run down of what im doing at the moment.
Ok here goes i started with a sanden sd 508 compressor added a grease nipple to where the drain hole is and blocked up an oil feed line (stops grease going into your tyres).
My old man then scored me an old fire extinguisher which im going to mount under my patrol.
I sourced the following parts from ebay. pressure switch (on at 70 psi off at 100), a pressure relief valve and a drain valve.
All the other parts i have sourced from work eg pressure guage manifold block all quick release fittings brass fittings the lot
Currently im up to the stage of mounting it i found a drawing of the bracket to suit my car on grungles web site
i will post some pics of what im up to sometime today or tommorro
cheers charlie

I like your idea. Its one that has been done commercially (*with exception of the fire extinguisher ballast tank). Unfortunately with the modern makes of vehicles there is generally no more room under bonnet to fit compressors of that type.

Are you positive the extinguisher is save to take that amount of pressure, allowing for a failure with the relief valve, maybe I'm to cautious when it comes to compressed air,but I've seen what it does when things go wrong. Good luck with the installation, shall follow your progress.

yeah thats what im trying to find out to make 100% sure its safe but yeah its a deadly mixture if it goes wrong. If it doesnt work out ill buy a suitable tank but at the moment i got that tank for free so hopefully i can make it work
Yeah there is a comercial setup pretty much the same as this one but VERY pricy

Trust me, a fire extinguisher will take all an endless air compressor can handle then more than quadruple it. They operate at pressures exceeding 200 bar or 3000 psi. I don't think you will be putting that kind of pressure in your tyres and the compressor just couldn't do it.

yeah mounting it is the hardest part about it getting the pully lined up without changing the contact angle too much from standard i wanted to put another pully inline to i wont change any belt contact but im not sure if i can actually do that due to space.

been a long while since i posted anything but i have the compressor mounted and pumping its not connected to the manifold yet with the pressure switch, releif valve, guage and outlet but IT IS IN woop woop was that a pain in the ass or what to get it in two man job one holding it in and the other putting in the bolts
I also have a question though! Should i be using a relay for the job or just bang it through the switch any ideas on it ?
