I have just joined the group and saw your question about the Tirfor manual. I had just put my Tirfor on ebay, so I scanned the manual - sorry, not as a pdf - I can't scan to pdf yet. It's several png files, fairly large. I put them into a Word file and have made a pdf, but the quality is not as good as the original and the pdf is 1.2 MB, so I can't upload it and I don't have tools to compress it further. I can e-mail it or the png files, if anyone wants them.

Good deal for a Tirfor !
If anyone is interested I am flogging for a mate a 1.6 tonne chain winch has about 5 metres of chain, which you use in conjunction with either a tow rope or snood end cable .
Theyare called pull alongs in the transport and store world .
$125.00 +/-
Collect from Frankston or arrange your own cartage

Tirfor Hand winch
How good are these hand winches? Like they state 2500kgs pulling, but a car stuck in mud is going to be heavier than this? I am interested in getting a good hand winch but want something that can get me out of anything. Is this it or is there something anyone could recommend?

2500kg no mater hor much cable is out. An electric winch capacity is depending on how many layers of cable are on the drum.
If you use a hand winch with a snatch block then yo get 5000kg pull which should be enough pull. It will be slow and hard work. Preperation is the ke here. If you can reduce pull up angles using a shovel then it will be easier than pulling up against a solid step up. A little expierance and a lot of paticence is required for these winches. Oh and a fair bit of sweat. But yuo dont have to contend with flat batteries.
