Ditto..... I have a UV filter on all my lenses... the only time i take them off is with my 14-42mm lens when I want to use the polarizing lens. THis is because at the widest angle you tend to catch the edges in the frame when the UV is still attached with the polarization lens on top.

The only time it works against you is on certain angles to the sun, it can have a wierd effect on the blue in the sky.

In the year 2002 my partner bought her self a Nikon cool pix 5 meg pixel for $2700, now I see them on Ebay for around $200

In 2007 my Dad bought a nikon 12 meg pixel,he paid about $1600 for it.

I got last year a Canon powershot 7 meg pixel. won it in a skill tester. drowned it on my bullbar at the sunnycorner chick drive a few weeks ago. dried it out and it still works. all the video and photo's I took at kanangra boyd drive last week was on this camera.

I have a large collection of photo's from all 3 camera's and I find the best photos came out of the old 5 meg pixel camera. when zoomed in on a photo there sharper where the larger mega pixels seem to blurr out and get grainy plus chew alot of memory.

So I dont think the bigger the megapixels is what you need. its all Lense quality.

Also our most used camera is the canon powershot just because its easy to use. point and shoot and get a half decent photo. with the nikon you need to know what your doing, when we take the nikon with us i find myself playing with it all the time or reading the manual. too many settings for us!

5. Choose more mega pixel camera
Larger the sensor size (not pixel) better the image especially in poor light. The 5 points are good

Yep. No SLR lense should be without a UV as a permanent fixture. Cheap protection. A polariser is the only other filter that I consider a must have - but you dont want it on all the time. Also a good one is not cheap!! Very good for blue skies and foliage, and for defeating glare in all sorts; but in the absence of glare cuts at least 1 - 1.5 stops of exposure, and sometimes you want all the light you can get.

Unfortunately I've never owned a lense where fitting one filter on top of another doesnt create cropping at wide angle; so to avoid that you have to take the UV off and put the polarizer on.

Another good tip when looking for a non-slr is - make sure it has a nice wide angle end of the zoom. Many boast long zooms now but not so wide at the other end, often 35mm!! But others are available down to 28mm, which makes a big difference for those landscapes!

I would agree that a UV filter is the go for protection of your lens as you can leave it on all the time. I can't imagine using a camera with a polarising filter on at night? taking photos indoors? portraits? regrds gecko
