Default Tracks for softies

A couple of my mates have softroaders, a few current model RAV4s, a Kluger, an XTrail, an Outlander, a Terri and one a Forester (the autotragic version, so no low range as fitted to the manual).

They're very keen to get the things a little bit dirty, but within their own capabilities, which, like their vehicles, is limited. Most have tried the beaches, to varying degrees of success (in one case, amusingly little success because someone wouldn't listen to me about tyre pressures). Any suggestions where I could take them close to Brisbane that won't involve a large bill from a followup trip to the wreckers? I was thinking of the tracks that run along the Bruce Highway - they're legal to go on, right? I'd be going along with them in my '06 Zook, which, while still quite soft, at least has the gear to get me, if not them, out of a bit of trouble.

Also, I've had a look around a couple of the forums dedicated to their vehicles, such as Rav4World, but the few posts claiming offroad activity are usually accompanied by photographs involving the vehicles on a non surfaced, but perfectly decent road, usually with the wheel firmly planted in a small, wet pothole or on a bit of tree. Not very convincing, in other words. Are there any dedicated forums that I have missed that would be good for them to frequent?

Also, they like giving me lumps for driving a zook, so I wouldn't be terrible upset if parts of any suggested tracks have the possibility to embarrass them a little bit while I cruise past

All suggestions gratefully accepted.

Scenic Rim Adventure park is pretty good. All tracks are graded from beginner/ soft road to extreme break your car walk home type of stuff. That is just outside of beaudesert.

i wouldnt be going to scenic rim in a soft roader
yes they have tracks that say they are good for them BUT believe me they are not. I have been there twice in the last month in a Patrol with MTZ, 2" lift etc..got pretty hair raising!
I would be doing tracks out of the dirty weekends book instead, that is designed for soft roaders in mind. I have done all bar one or two and can say a soft roader will be fine ( except maybe in wet weather)
i have heard its not in print anymore but the new one is due any day now

Yeah i agree with angry, Scenic rim isnt really for soft roaders at all.
There are some nice gentle drives through the Border Ranges down and around Mt Warning. There is also a nice simple drive out near Orielly's called Duck Creek Rd, that you can find on the tracks map on this website.
Good luck in your travels

I've seen some stock RAV4's and XTRAILS on the Condamine gorge last year. This time of the year is the best time to go, there is barley any rain and it's very sunny.

Condamine gorge is a place that has lots of river crossings, 14 from memory. The tracks are very easy, even that 4x4 Holden Ute go through them.

Sometimes you'd be lucky to get your rims even wet, and sometimes it's impassable. I had a great time there, went there with 6 passengers in my patrol, and they loved it as it was their first day of 4wding.

From Brisbane it took around 3-4 hours to get to Condamine gorge, it is in Killarney. But even though it was a massive trip, we enjoyed every moment of it as it reminded all of us what Australia was really about. You'd be going through massive incline roads, the best scenery of waterfalls etc.

I can go on and on, but I recommend this place for any rookie.

Good luck,

the best tours from Dirty Weekends that would be good for soft roaders would be
*Bribie Island
*Condamine Gorge
*Conondales
*Yabba
*Mt Mee
*Cooloola
*Border Rangers
*O'reilys (duck creek rd)
*Blackhall Rangers
