Default Front end Speed wobble

AAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

Be fore you say it,"Yes it is a GU"
however this is a shocker........
I have severe wobble in the front end particularly around the 70 - 80km/hr (so bad can hardly keep it on the road and can't drive out of it). I have replaced the steering dampner with a RTC tough dog myself, I have had wheels balanced, and alligned by a reputable tyre specialst. I have had bearings checked and tightened by my own mechanic, who also fitted castor correction bushes as I have a measly 2' lift. I have had the wheel allignement checked by anohter suspension specialist who mentioned he had adjusted some other bearing. this appearred to have resolved the issue to approx 85%.
I traveled to Emerald and back to Hervey Bay and it is reoccuring. Now get this, I had no problem until I went through an underwash, Simple "Must be mud on the wheels" nope double checked.
If you can give me a suggestion would be good. the Suspension specialist wants to fit a Castor adjustment plate he has custom made $$$$$$$$$.
I hope for another suggestion before I embark on this journey as it isn't something I'm farmiliar with, nor do I want to part with $$$$$ on another "This MAY help"

You have done everything possible.

Couple of things I can think of to check are:

Remove any rocks and check for nails (foreign objects) in the tyre
I have a old tyre start to bubble and caused a wobble on the Prado at 90-100 KM/hr
Wonder if the under wash removed a balance weight

Maybe worth giving it a good clean, I had some rubbish stuck in the back of the mag rims.

thanks for your example. Not a wieght issue as it corrects itself after it dries, weird hey? Tyres have been rotated.

Check you brakes and make sure there is no dirt, mud and any rubbish on the sliders or anywhere in that area. I have a shatter which was caused by jammed sliders on the pads. I also used high temp grease and put a thin layer on the pins

Do you have vented discs? look through the vent holes for mud.

Cheers

Good point, G'day Quozie it's been a while, it could be a warped rotor or similar, if you went through the under wash with hot brakes.

I had a shim removed each side on the swivel hub preloads(or something like that) and that fixed
it for me. Have a look on the patrol4x4.com forum, heaps of different remedies there, hopefully a
solution for yours too!

Well by all accounts you have checked the lot, I would have said buckled rotor or uni on the tail shaft, u haven't clipped a gutter or something and bent a rim, try putting front tires on the back and rears on the front see if that helps otherwise inspect the tires for failure bulges cos may only distort at speed, Good luck with it Quozie.

Default GU wobble

Interesting thread... my old man has a 1999 (I think) GU with a similar wobble (front end) when it hits around 90km p/h mark ever since buying it from auction in 2000. Since then, Nissan have looked it over countless times, he's had steering and suspension guys check it, and still after 9 years, and yet, there has been no answers!
I think he's pretty much given up, and just having to live with it, but perhaps with more posts to this thread from others with similar experiences or ideas, maybe a resolution can be found!

Keep the ideas flowing guys! Love it!
