Default New Features for 4x4earth

Hey all,

Here is the shopping list of new features that we are looking into. What do meembers see as the most important?

Changing symbols to match the Parks Victoria symbols for Track Difficulty
Create a Picture Gallery.
Add more items that are on the maps to include camp sites, training placess and possibly services.
We are looking at an application that runs on mobile phones with an inbuilt GPS to create tracks automatically as you drive.
Also an program that can display 4x4earth maps live as you drive and show your position on our map.

With the services the list could include; accessory sales, repairs, new vehicles, used vehicles. Is there anything else?

In regard to the online store, we have some stubby holders and T-shirts that we are happy to give away over time to everyone that contributes to the site and helps get the word out there to as many Offroaders as possible.

Any other ideas are greatly welcome. Not too sure how long it will be until all of this is done, the team have a few projects on at the moment, but we hoep to chip away at this lot over the next few months.

Have fun out there!

James

Hi James
Using the same symbols that match Parks Vic would be beneficial to a lot of new comers along with seasoned 4wders..
They WILL then know what 2 black diamonds on a track sign means..... Don't go up without 35s, lots of clearance, winch and mates with you! You will probably require recovering.
On the other hand, people with zero or little modified cars will know its ok to tackle green posted tracks, and maybe have a go at blue, but with caution / backup.
Some great ideas there for those with intelligent GPS/PC/Palm Pilot/Phone.

Nick

Fantastic ideas!
Especially like the extra items on the maps (campsites etc)
In the services section could you have the training companies in there?

4x4earth maps live sounds interesting.

look forward to the new look

Thumbs up Suggestions

Have loaded 3 tracks as an experiment. The potential of this site is awesome, but I have a few suggestions.

1. Dispense with the green triangle track markers. They have no real meaning. They are just fairly arbitary points that the GPS picked, either based on time passed or distance moved. There are frequently so many of them they obscur the track. The blue track line is the most significant.

2. Automatically mark the start point for tracks. (First data point in track file)

3. Automatically calculate the distance and duration of a track.

4. Support for Magellan .trk files, as produced by Discover Aus Streets & Tracks (MapSend format). I have attached the definition of all the MapSend formats, and a sample file which should show a track in the Warburton, Vic area.

5. Ability to view tracks in 3D

I reckon these two, myself, as i like 4bying and camping....
1] Create a Picture Gallery.
2] Add more items that are on the maps to include camp sites, training placess and possibly services.
