Sleeping ideas
Hi Guys and Girls,
I have been thinking about overnight accommodation and some ideas that people have or do.
I was recently thinking about chucking the swag on the roof racks to stay off the ground and came up with a 1800 x 1200 piece of ply (2400 if you have a bigger rack) and then tek-screwing the swag down. Then I thought about tents or maybe my boat bimini that I no longer use, fold it down in the morning.I know my thoughts are a bit left of centre and many would say just buy a roof top tent but it would be interesting to see some of the homemade solutions others have come up with.

Who gives a RATS what others think - (Peer group pressure is for SCHOOL!) - Followers NEVER come up with new inventions - Try it & see if it WORKS!

Yeh! Bill is on the money there mate. Sounds like a good idea to me, I have a roof top tent and like it up off the ground, no ants, bugs or unwanted visiting critters in the night. If you can water proof it so wile driving in the rain is no problem,I reckon you'r on a good thing there.

The Australian way is to look at something that works in a shop and make an item that works for you. Saves money and generally more practical.

If it is just overnight, and only the one or two of you, what I do is travel with the rear seats out, have the queen air bed in the back ( it fits quite nicely in the rear of the Pajero ) and dump the fridge, esky and any other stuff next to the car, still plugged in if required. Very dry, no wind and a comfy nights sleep. Just deflate the air bed in the morning and move on.

I've always thought if you had one these Oztents, screw it to a base and use it as a rooftop tent. Get some extendable poles and you have an awning as well. I don't reckon the tents are to cheap though.

I've always wondered about these rooftop tents.
Do they have some sort of leveling system, or do you have to park on flat ground, coz that's nearly always impossible.
Apologies if this is a dumb question.

No self leveling, just find a good spot. Same as any other tent or caravan.
