I have put a trip into the Gippsland scetion of the Trips and Gatherings for Labour Day long weekend in early March. Young's Rock would definately be on the agenda for the Saturday. I think there may also be some other trips prior to that that have already been listed by other members.

Please respond to the Trips and Gatherings post if interested.

Thanks

Hi guys,
I'm looking at exploring some of the tracks in the Neerim South/ pine plantation areas, i believe Carrols trk is rated medium, there are others which run off this including Filter trk, Ronald trk spur trk and storer trk has anyone done these and if so what condition are they in?

Iv'e done a few of the easier ones to the south of here including Billstones trk, Brigg trk and Mill trk which were great.

xtrailer I assume from your post you are looking to take your xtrail out. Man that is cool. Good to see you getting amoungst it. How do xtrails go? What mods have you done and what are their strengths and weaknesses.

I have done quite a few in the Latrobe river NP. Most of them would be pretty easy in the dry. Add a few inches of rain and it could be a different story.

The ones I remember are Sweetwater Ck, Hard Up Haul, Youngs Tk (and some of the gnarly side tracks around Youngs rock), Out to the river crossing and north of the river crossing.

I just got back from a small trip today with some of the guys from here. I'll be looking to get out again in about 3 to 4 weeks. So if you want to organise a trip, start one off and if I'm free I'll come up.

Most of us in our club have vehicles like mine ie. RAv4, forester or mazda tribute etc with a few proper 4wd's with low range thrown in. Mine has a 40mm King spring lift to help with clearance which puts it on par with a standard Prado or Pathfinder for ground clearance. Obviously there is no low range gearing which is probably the biggest weakness.

We do easy to medium tracks but pick out suitable ones with care, so if there are servere ruts and deep bog holes will give them a miss. Better to leave that for vehicles that are equipped with low range and at least a 2 inch lift. There are some great tracks in this area which are easy going with fantastic scenery in and around the pine plantations.

Just wondering if any track conditions have been recorded for the tracks mentioned in my post on 5-3-10, which run off or close to Carrols trk in the Neerim South area. Any information would be of some help.

G'day Xtrailer

Carrols Track would probably suit you, as would the tracks that run through the area, including the ones that you have named. Some of those are easy, and only really consist of crushed rock where a standard 2WD vehicle would cope okay.

There are several tracks a little bit along Latrobe River Road, back towards Neerim South including Albies Alley and the tracks that runn off that. Hi Tree Extension and some of the surrounding tracks would also be suitable.

There are plenty of them in the area, too many to mention. I would suggest drivng and exploring. If anyting is too steep or ruttted, or you are just not sure, it is as simple as turning around and finding some more. Not all tracks suit all people.

Good luck.
