Default Trip Report, Australia Day run, meet and greet newbies

Well we managed to do it, one run 19 rigs turned up

Was a top day, 4X4 Earth Members, perfect weather, and dry tracks, and a long lunch break WOO HOO

We met at East Warburton hall between 9 and 9.45 and decided to air down here and hit the tracks 3 kl up the road.

Dust and more dust, I was OK being in front , realised it was going to be a slow day, so mentally rescheduled the track list. We turned up Brahams Rd for a few Ks, we selected 4WD low and the easy run started with Brahams Tk, nice easy climb to a bog hole with an easy chicken track, I went through and Riplock tried the shallower part ruts too deep and he got hung up, snatched through and just been told someone else got hung up in the chicken track and needed a snatch. Jo drove Tonkatrol through the bog hole as well

From here we headed back down Brahams and into Lyrebird Rd to get to Lyrebird Tk, another easy uphill bit of fun, not a problem to anyone

Then up to Lays Tk to go to the top of Stringybark Tk, nice downhill track, with some gravel on it near the end and a few ruts at the end of this slightly harder track we had 2 rigs pull out ( not Earth members ) so we 17 continued on to Mississippi Tk, a fairly long uphill climb, rutted and rocky in places, but the travel was now much quicker with the 2 retirees gone. no problems on this one either.

Off to the camp ground in Big River Road, Starlings Gap Camping Area where as we arrived 9 Jeeps were just leaving, good timing as I had booked the site for Earth Members only.

BBQs and cookers out of rigs and lunch was enjoyed by all, and guys got to know each other. Lost 2 ( Laurie ) changed a flat tyre, which was to be the end of his trip as Brian helped rectify a problem with that wheel, sorry Guys, but got a message to say they were going home, spare did not fit over front brakes

We then headed down Smyth Ck Rd to our next track Hehehaha for a play, Lays Track, well we looked and they queued to have a go, up and down we went, a very badly rutted track but it was dry and ruts could be straddled, well done everyone, we decided to exit the bush via the rest of this track, no problems at all and we got to the air up spot, said goodbyes and headed home.

Thanks to Jo59 ( Jo ) and Plastered ( Matt ) for the assistance today, and all the guys that turned up with family and friends, was great meeting you all and thanks for the excellent way you all drove and followed instructions, by the end of the day everything was down pat, Jo and I had a ball, so a big THANK YOU to all who attended.

If you have pics feel free to post them as I did not get many.

Hello Jack,

Laurie here.Just got home first beer after 4 more wheel changes today.Simply because of one puncture.

Myself and Brian(Ozrider)exited via Powelltown. If it was not for that one puncture it would have been a good day.Turned out to be an old nail

Thank you for organising the day,but i think there were a couple of shocked newbies being their fist time out.Would be fun in the wet.

Cheers

Sounds like you had a great day, would have been worth the 3 hour drive from Snake Valley by the sounds of it. Thankfully I pulled out of the trip though, the poor Rangie is having some annoying ignition issues Gotta love (or loath) Lucas, the price of darkness

Yeah it was a good day out, a couple of times Jack and the group behind him got away from the rest of the crowd and out of radio range...but I can always find him with the mobile phone..hehehe, lucky we have pretty good reception on telstra up in the hills, apart from that little hiccup was a fun time. Was good to meet some New people and catch up with some "oldies".

Thanks again jack, jo, wazza, joe and Matt.

I had a ball, the kids had a ball, and I finally got my new truck dirty!!!

Those tracks we did today would turn into a mess with a small amount of rain.

I didn't get any photos, so I am hoping others did, but I have stored all the tracks on my VMS so hoping I can load them, just have to work it out, computers are definitely not my forte.

I hope everyone had a great day out and it was good to see some old faces as well as put names to new faces.

Cheers, reddave

(who has never actually owned a red car, you meet me you will get it)

Thanks Laurie, yes tracks were a bit technical at times, the original plan was do the super highways, but when I saw the rigs attending I changed my mind and did a couple of medium tracks

With only a spit of rain most of those tracks would become difficult to extreme, so we went out on a good day and great to report, NO DAMAGE, must have been an easy run

No damage?I now have a rather large deep pinstripe in the duco.I should have stopped to remove the limb/branch that caused it.The only problem is ,that it does not blend in with the smaller ones since i got the car.But thats what you expect when you 4x4 a purpose.Thats is what i buy them for.The first two cars were red, this one is Silver.I think the next will be white, easier to repair.

Now the only problem is?How to hide it from the missus?Ummmmmmmmmm.
