Default High country huts trip report 2010

A quick trip report from a weekend in the high country.
We left Melbourne friday afternoon, there was 2 cars, both Patrols.
We would have just a nice easy weekend visiting some of the huts around Mansfield.
After leaving Mansfield at around 4 we went out on the Mt Stirling Rd, We visited Razor back hut, Bluff hut, Craigs Hut ,Jamison Hut, Bindaree Hut,PikesFlat Hut, Frys Hut.
King hut we could not find, i think a fire place maybe all that is left.
Lovicks Hut is being rebuilt, and the frame was almost finished, with guys working on it this weekend.
There were heaps of river crossings up to around 400mm deep
All the roads are very easy, in the dry you could take a 2 wheel drive on most of it, with the only hard track on the loop being Cairn creek rd. this is only a track that is getting overgrown.
After a couple of easy days and great camping, we had to have a little fun.
We diverted up Red hill track up to three chains rd. near sheepyard flat, This is not for the faint hearted, very steep, long climb, with big ruts and rock ledges, but we got up and it is a challange. Would not even attemp in the wet.
It was a great weekend with no dramas.

Hey Paul, I gotta say - you suck I am so jealous. What a great backyard you blokes have down there. I love the pic of Craigs Hut. Just gotta be different eh. An angle that never seems to get photographed.

I think maybe we gotta come back down. Am trying to get my Dad down that way.

Nice report and photos. Unfortunately Kings Hut was burned down late last year. It was an ordinary hut, but some great hut history all the same.
