maxxis bighorn vs Mickey thompson mtz
Gday all
Ive been looking at the mtz or the bighorn both have good reviews im just not sure which one will get more milage and still be capable offroad.
My mate just bought the bighorn and they look tough as! Currently i have the mickey t atz 5 rib and they have got me 'most' places i pointed it and have worn really well, so i was really liking the mtz but im not sure that the couple hundred dollar extra price tag would be worth it.
I think the bighorns would really be good for my car but how many kms would i get compared to the mtz? (nissan patrol GQ will be on 16x8 -30 33" 12.5"
Cheers charlie

A friend of mine had big horns on his GQ shorty, they wore & chopped out really quickly (don't know how many kms he gout out of them. I just took off MTZ 33's of my GU, i got a good 70,000kms that had seen a good on & off road life in all conditions, I did find with my MTZ's were rather soft & on rocky terrain that chunks did come out easily. I have gone the Pro Comp M/T & are really happy with them

Good to hear your rave about the procomps Elise, I'm thinking of going that way myself. I am on my second set of MTZ's, first set I got 72 000. Second a different story. I wouldn't have done 12 000 on them and they are nearly RS. Difference is I put on the new ones 2 days before hitting some extreme stuff in the high country pulling a kamper. Didn't give them time to weather and harden I think. They still have good tread but they are chipped to bits. I'll be replacing them at Christmas again I would think.

When I went for a test run the Sunday after i got the Pro Comps on I was shocked at how good they were, the MTZ's I found would slide out to the side to much if it was slippery whereas with the Pro Comps stuck to the track & when I had to get around a fallen tree in a gentle manner in some rather slippery mud they held so well & the truck behind me couldn't get traction with his MTZ's & the winch had to come out.

I think they go for about $360 RRP & the Pro Comp M/T were $375 per tyre for a 285/75R16

I have had mine on for only 3 weeks & been off road with them 5 times & I'm heading out again for 3 days of full on driving, they perform well but I can't tell you how they are wearing yet because they aren't showing any signs, have seen many people running them & it's all good reports, IMHO it is worth spending the extra $$ for a quality product once rather than a quick fix that may only last 1/4 of the time

Just my 2 cents worth.... I went form MTZ to BFG KM2 (33" 305/70/16) and am very happy with them... MTZ did slide around in the wet more so then the KM2... KM2 excellent on and off road...
