2009-11-29 Cottan-Bimbang National ParkToyota Prado Couldn't get into the Cells today - it was to wet.
2009-05-01 Stockton Beach, Anna BayToyota Prado Stockton is quite easy, but just needs to be tackled with care. 16psi in the tyres, go with another car, keep good recovery gear (snatch strap, shovel, shackles at a minimum) and watch your speed. Don't sit to close to the person in front, and don't use your brakes. I recommend coming in from Lavis Lane and exiting from Anna Bay. The Anna Bay end is a lot easier if your car is low or you've never done beach driving. A lot of Stockton has become private property, with the best dunes at the Anna Bay end now being corded off for sand minding. Although you can still get to them if you travel from the western end of the beach, I'm not sure of the consequences if you get caught. A beach permit is required and can be obtained from the servos at Anna Bay or the Metro at Lavis Lane. The last one we bought was $30 for a year, but you can get a weekend pass as well.
2009-03-01 Watagans State ForestToyota Prado We've done this a few times now, and I wouldn't rate all of the Wattagans easy. There are parts of this I wouldn't tackle in a standard 4WD, and others Id want to have a winch or at least someone to pull me out backwards. This is a great area though. But keep an eye on the weather. The roads can get washed out (especially on the western side of the mountains). Some of the roads turn to quagmires when it rains, and smaller AWDs may have problems getting through. The track leading in from Woods Road between Wyee and Jiliby is great. It follows the power lines for a while. Get off at Sparks Road from the F3 heading north. Turn right on to Hue Hue Road. After going up a steep hill (just after the tip), take the first left. This is Woods Road. At the end of the road, a dirt track heads off to the right. Follow this (passes through Moonterra Archery Range, so watch out on weekends for archers and arrows). This road turns into Kiar Ridge Road and eventually comes out in Durren Durren halfway between Dooralong and Mandalong. Keep an eye on washouts. I almost lost it down the side of an embankment.
2009-01-24 Cottan-Bimbang National ParkToyota Prado Very wet and slippery today. Easy track, but very picturesque. We went from Wingham this way to get to Walcha so we could check out Tia Falls and Aspley Falls.
2007-6-09 Cottan-Bimbang National ParkToyota Prado Got into the Cells today from here. Temp dropped 20 degrees to around -2 and it snowed on the Oxley Highway.
