Spaning from just South of Childers to approximately twenty kilometres North of Maryborough, the Wongi State Forest and Forest Reserve was the location that the members of the Bundaberg Four Wheel Drive Club headed for their monthly outing. The area holds many treasures for the four wheel drive enthusiast. Combined with numerous two and four wheel drive tracks that offer an array of driving challenges, there are also some local points of interest to visit.

An Aboriginal word meaning snake, Wongi itself is a string of waterholes fringed with paperbarks and rushes surrounded by eucalypt forest and pine plantation. Tannins leached from the paperbarks stain the water in the waterholes a golden–brown colour making for some interesting reflections in the still waters.

Camping is aloud at the waterholes and provides an excellent spot to cool of in summer. Two picnic areas are provided near the water, with the camping area having sites suitable for families, groups, caravans, tents and motor homes. Having toilets, picnic tables, cold showers and tank water are provided makes for an enjoyable camping experience. It is also one of the few spots that dogs on leashes are also permitted.

Lenthalls Dam, the water supply for Hervey Bay and its surrounding areas, was built in 1984 and is in the heart of the Wongi State Forest and Forest Reserve. The dam was named after the pioneering family in the district and has been stocked with Bass, Barramundi, Yellowbelly and Silver Perch. A stocked Impoundment Permit is required to fish at the lake and a concrete ramp is available to launch your boat from. No camping is available at the lake.

2014-07-06 Toyota HiluxBmxinbilby didnt get far on my own been out there with uncle previously but my stock standard vehicle took the mud differently and it acted like quicksand causing me to sink to the diff only a couple of km in, had a great time camping except for the amount of animals, got rescued in the morning after taking a long hike to find reception.
2014-05-17 Nissan TerranoDeJaccke Started off at Childers and found our way from the enty on Agnesvale Rd through some random goat tracks and always following "The Road Least Travelled" technique. Although we didn't make the whole plotted Circuit we had some good fun albeit a few too many well maintained tracks were in the way of that fun. Ended up following what looked like a Ranger Access track until we found a washout too deep to traverse, had lunch, and returned. Will go back again to finish the exploration.
